This Christmas had to be one of the nicest ever. Not because there were extra presents under the tree but because it seemed everyone was in more of a Christmas spirit than I can remember.
Al and I headed back to my hometown, Ludlow, Christmas Eve afternoon. Surprisingly, we hit little traffic on the way up. We spent a great evening with my parents playing Trivial Pursuit and then I went to Midnight Mass with a very dear friend who is going to be deployed to Iraq for a year. It was nice to go back to my childhood church and see it all dressed up for Christmas.
Christmas morning started later than the Garbarinos are used to, but it was nice to look at all the presents under the tree just a little bit longer. We all got exactly what we asked for and then it was time for dinner and dinner guests. It was a feast, more of a desert feast than anything, and it was all delicious. Then we all played another rousing game of Trivial Pursuit. We had so much fun! Lots of laughter! The quote from the day came from Joan: "Was 1/1/01 before September 11th 2001?"
We headed back to Rhode Island around 8:30 to unwind and open presents with Joan and Al. We received a rather unique gift: a trip to anywhere in the U.S. So now we are contemplating and planning on where and when we should go. So far, a wine tour in California is a top contender!
New Year's Eve, as per tradition, we headed up to Loon Mountain for the weekend with 3 other couples. New Hampshire has not yet failed to deliver the snow when we arrive! We got over a foot! Also as per tradition, we went (drunken) snow tubing New Year's eve night with our nips! :-) It's always a great laugh! And also, as per tradition, we all drank way too much the first night and spent the next two days recovering. We met two new great couples this weekend that will hopefully become part of our annual trip, Kim and TIm and Mike and Cindy, all friends we met through Ivan and Sof.
I did some X-country skiing while Al did some downhill skiing. I had forgotten what a workout it was and my thighs today reminded me! We all enjoyed dinner together at the Common Man on our last night...in the middle of a blizzard. We played board games all weekend, watched movies, drank and ate WAY too much! But it was a ball and we are already looking forward to next year! I'm already scouting out places! Pictures to come!
